Tour of Somerset House

There was an excellent turn out for our tour of Somerset House in March.   This is a fascinating building with a long history and we were conducted around the site by a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide.  The weather was warm and sunny, the restaurant was new and innovative and all in all it was a most interesting day.  It was a pity that Lynn our President was unwell on the day but Dorothy our Past President organised us all beautifully.

Dickens Exhibition – Museum of London, London Wall – Saturday 12th May

Our next event is a visit to the Museum of London in the Barbican for the current Dickens Exhibition.   We will meet at 1.30pm in the entrance hall prior to a talk by the curator of the exhibition which will start at 2pm and last around 1 hour.  After this we will then tour the exhibition.  The cost for this event will be £12.50 per person and guests will be very welcome.  Entry to the Museum is free but there is a charge for the talk by the curator.  If you would like to come to this event please complete the form at the bottom of the page and return to me with your cheque by Saturday 5th May.  For those of you who prefer to do a bank transfer the information is also on the slip but do please let me know that you have done this and how many will be coming.

How to get there:  the nearest underground is St Paul’s but according to the Transport for London website there will be no service on the Central line between Marble Arch and Bethnal Green over this weekend which leaves either Barbican or Moorgate.    There are also numerous buses which pass the Museum and the Transport for London web site can be used to plan your journey at www.tfl.gov.uk.

There are café’s in the Museum and around the area where food is available but nothing has been organised by the Club for this visit.
