Afternoon Tea – April 2013
Twenty-seven members enjoyed an extremely good afternoon tea in the Kenilworth Hotel in Bloomsbury. The food was of a very high quality and the staff most helpful, providing more tea and sandwiches as required. It was an ideal opportunity for members to catch up and have a chat in such pleasant surroundings.

Annual Dinner, Caledonian Club –Thursday 23rd May 20
Our annual dinner this year will take place on Thursday 23rd May 2013 in the Caledonian Club, London, with our guest speaker, Lady Hazel Cosgrove. Lady Cosgrove was born in Glasgow, is a graduate in law from the University of Glasgow and was the first woman to be appointed to a permanent seat as a judge in the Court of Session. Having had many years’ experience in the Scottish legal system, we are certain she will be a very entertaining speaker. The cost of the dinner is £45.00 and guests will be very welcome at this event. Some of the profit from last year’s dinner will be used to subsidise this dinner, keeping the cost at £45.00. There will be a drinks reception at 6.45pm, with dinner being served at 7.15pm. The three-course meal will include wine or soft drinks. A vegetarian option will be available. Due to the cost and outlay for this event, members and guests should pay in advance of the event, either by cheque to me, or by bank transfer. If you are using bank transfer, can you please let me know that you have done so, letting me also know if you have any guests or dietary requirements? All replies must be returned to me by 16th May.

Janette Riach – We were sorry to hear of the death of one of our members, Janette Riach, who died in January 2013. Janette was a member of the club for many years and, even when she returned to Scotland on retirement, she continued her membership as she enjoyed receiving the newsletters. Carol has written to her family sending our condolences.
