August 2013

The Annual Dinner of the Club was a great success with 43 members and their guests enjoying an excellent meal at the Caledonian Club followed by a most entertaining after-dinner speech by Dame Hazel Cosgrove, a graduate of the University who has had a long and illustrious career in law. We are most grateful to Jan and David Coughtrie for helping us to organise this event.

Our next event in the 2013 calendar is a Guided Tour of the London Tube which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. This event will take place on Saturday 14th September 2013. The cost will be £18 per person and guests will be made most welcome. The meeting point for the tour will be Farringdon Underground Station at 2pm. The tour will finish at Westminster Underground Station at approximately 4pm. All attendees must have a valid travel card or Oystercard to cover Zones 1 and 2. If you would like to attend this event, please reply by the 30th August. All money for the trip needs to be paid in advance as we shall have to pay for any non-attendees who do not turn up on the day. If you pay by bank transfer, please let the Events Secretary or Treasurer know you have done this so that the treasurer can check it off on the bank statement.

One of our members is willing to organise a members’ trip to Krakow and has asked me to pass on the following details. The visit to Krakow would take place around the end of April /early May 2014, with a final departure date to be decided by those wishing to go to Krakow. If you are interested in going to Krakow, or would like any further information, please email the president.
