December 2013

The AGM of the Club, preceded by lunch, was held on Saturday 26th October 2013 at St. Columba’s with 32 members present. The Committee for 2013/2014 is as follows:

President – Marjory Montgomerie
Past President – Carol Whitesmith
President Elect – Trish Thomson
Treasurer – Anne Robins (being shadowed by Liz Abbott)
Events Secretary – Anne O’Hagan
Membership Secretary – Marjorie Bremner
Catering – Lynne Freeman.

At the AGM, members voted in favour of donating £2000 to the University of Glasgow. A cheque for this amount was presented to the University at an alumni function in Dulwich Picture Gallery in November which several members attended. The money will be used to fund a scholarship for a talented student who might not otherwise be able to study at university. The University holds various functions in London and the South-east, and the Alumni Office has said that any of our members wishing to attend these events should contact them to be put on the guest lists.

The Club has recently recruited a large number of new members with the help of the Alumni Office and current members will have an opportunity to meet them at forthcoming events as well as catching up with old friends. If you would like to join the club’s LinkedIn group, please contact Marjorie Bremner on membership@gu-london.org.uk.

Our first members’ event for 2014 is the President’s Tea which will be held on Saturday 18th January in Richoux, 86 Brompton Road, London SW3 1ER (opposite Harrods), from 3 to 5pm. It will be a traditional afternoon tea with tea or coffee, sandwiches, scones and cakes and the cost will be £17.25 per head. If you are planning to attend the tea party, please complete the slip at the bottom of the page and return it to me with your payment by the 11th January 2014. Alternatively, if you are paying by bank transfer, can you please let me know you are planning to attend and that you have paid through your bank? All payments must be received before the event. Hopefully we shall have a good attendance at this event as it has always proved popular in the past.

DATE FOR THE DIARY – Saturday 1st March, Spring Lunch at St. Columba’s, Pont Street

Finally, on behalf of the GUWC Committee, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
