April 2015

As I write, we have not yet attended the Old Bailey tour, which will take place on Tuesday the 28th of April, but we need to notify you of the next function immediately!

Our Annual Lunch is being held this year at the House of Lords on Thursday 14th May. Our sponsor is also our speaker, Baroness Meta Ramsay. Baroness Ramsay was educated at Hutchesons’ Girls’ Grammar School in Glasgow and Glasgow University. The title of her talk, “Modern Espionage”, hints at her distinguished career in MI6, Britain’s foreign intelligence service. Appointed a life peer, she later became foreign policy advisor to the late John Smith when he was Labour Party leader. Baroness Ramsay lives in London and Glasgow.

The cost of the Lunch is £65 per person. The Lunch is open to guests but of course members will be given priority. An invitation will be issued to all those attending which will set out the details such as the entrance we must use and the arrival time required by the House of Lords but we should definitely plan to arrive by 12 noon latest for entry by 12.15pm and the function should end by 3pm.

As you will realise, security at the House of Lords, has to be quite strict so a list of the names of attendees is required in good time before the function. Note – there will be an ‘airport style’ entry check on the day. If you would like to join us at the Lunch please let me know – absolute cut-off date is the 14th of April.

Apology – I stated that the names of the female surgical pioneers spoken about by Zubir at the Spring Lunch were Lucy Blythe and Tina Gray Brown. This was incorrect. They were Tina Gray and Ellen Brown Orr. I am sorry about that.(March post has been updated online.)
