December 2016

Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting took place at St. Columba’s Church in Knightsbridge on Saturday 31st October and given the date there was definitely a hallowe’en feeling to proceedings. Luckily no ghosts or ghouls managed to spook proceedings and around 30 ladies enjoyed catching up with old and new friends over lunch.
The formal part of proceedings saw Trish Thomson hand over the Presidential reigns to Anne O’Hagan. Also after 15 years on the Committee, Marjory Montgomerie has decided to just enjoy events rather than organising them. Liz Abbott also stepped down as Treasurer. The contributions of Trish, Marjory and Liz were well acknowledged through words and gifts.
With Liz stepping down, Margaret Henderson was welcomed back onto the committee as Treasurer.
The Club has maintained a healthy membership this year with around 100 paid up members.

Marjorie Bremner continues to find new members through various networking avenues including LinkedIn. Marjorie encouraged everyone to join LinkedIn – it is not just for those in employment – retired and other non working people are welcome on the site too!

Marjorie is always looking for ideas to increase the membership so if you have any ideas, please get in touch!

Events during the year were well attended with increases over 2014

On the finance side, the Club was in profit on most events meaning that we have a healthy bank balance.

Anne ran through the proposed events for 2016 and we are in for another lively and interesting year. The full list is later in the newsletter but the year kicks off with the President’s Tea Party in January. What better way to shake off those winter blues?!

Next event:  President’s Tea Party

Saturday 23rd January 2016   2.45pm to 4.45pm  Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe  £25 per person

Our first event for 2016 is the President’s Tea Party which this year will be held at the Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe, 21 New Globe Walk, Bankside, London, SE1 9DT.

BOOKING DEADLINE: 9TH JANUARY 2016

If you are unable to make this event, a short note confirming this would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Get involved!

We are still a couple of roles short on the committee – most notably a President Elect for 2016 – but another general committee member would be helpful too.

Committee meetings are held on the same day as our events with any other business being agreed by email to keep time commitments to a minimum.

Everyone on the committee is very welcoming and supportive so if you haven’t done this kind of thing before but are tempted to give it a go, you should have no fears. We are always looking for new ideas and suggestions.

If you are interested in either of the roles, please contact Anne O’Hagan ohagans@btinternet.com President@gu-london.org.uk
